The Companies (Directors Report) and the Limited Liability Partnership (Energy and Carbon Report) Regulations 2018 came into force on 1st April 2019 and apply to financial years starting on or after 1st April 2019. The 2018 Regulations impose new obligations for what must be included in the Directors Report for quoted and large unquoted companies as well as imposing new obligations on large LLPs to prepare a new kind of Energy and Carbon Report.
The new reports must include the annual quantity of energy consumed from activities for which the company is responsible, including the consumption of fuel for the purposes of transportation and related emissions. The report must then specify how the organisation will improve their business energy efficiency through future energy saving actions, such as moving fleets from fossil fuels to electric vehicles, changing driver behaviours, improving service and maintenance strategies and so on.
While there is no prescribed methodology under the new legislation,
organisations are required to disclose their methodology and to calculate the required information. The EMTEC Platform delivers on each of these legislative requirements, while also providing an independent and external verification and assurance that the emissions data is correctly calculated.
